HOW DOES THIS CHALLENGE GRANT WORK?
The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation will match $100,000 in contributions from our donors – dollar-for-dollar. Your gift must be made before August 31, 2013 to qualify for the match. Don’t postpone, give online today.
WHY GIVE TODAY?
This opportunity comes to us at a particularly auspicious time. The 3-story medical office building structure, progressing nicely on the hospital campus, includes the new Education Center that will feature a simulation suite and laboratory for patient treatment and safety training for health care professionals. As we begin raising funds for the Education Center – including grant requests to help finance the purchase of equipment – the Newhall Foundation’s $100,000 challenge grant helps us raise the total of $200,000.
WHY IS THE EDUCATION CENTER NEEDED?
The Education Center will provide the environment, resources, technology, staff and curricula to deliver educational programs to patients and families, nursing staff, employees, volunteers, and physicians.
WHAT TECHNOLOGIES WILL IT INCLUDE?
The education center will incorporate the most current training technologies, including a simulation lab, which will test numerous case scenarios related to caregiver practices. Through the use of instructive presentations, computer-based learning, and high-fidelity human patient simulators(manikins that talk, breathe, have heart sounds, blood pressures, etc.), “learners” will be provided with an education in a non-threatening, controlled environment.
HOW MUCH WILL THE EDUCATION CENTER COST?
The cost associated with building a new education center is roughly $2,300,000. In addition, an anticipated $1,600,000 is needed for equipment and technology in the simulation lab.
HOW WILL MY GIFT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Your gift of any amount will be matched by the Newhall Foundation dollar-to-dollar – up to $100,000. This match will double the impact of your gift.
WHY IS MY GIFT IMPORTANT?
Your gift will help:
- Implement best nursing practices.
- Enhance critical thinking skills.
- Practice in an environment that does not place a patient at risk.
- Employees more relaxed in learning with hands-on experience.
- Participants review recorded simulations with a facilitator.
HOW WILL MY GIFT HELP SAVE LIVES?
Your gift will help create a learning environment that does not place a patient at risk:
- Sophisticated patient simulation manikins can be programmed to behave as a live patient and respond to the actions of the clinician, just as a live person would. If given incorrect medications or procedures, the manikin will have a change in blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
- Opportunity to see, hear and feel the patient’s response without the potential of harm.
- Without risks, caregivers can focus on the actions and behaviors they need to acquire - and practice those behaviors over and over again - until they become an everyday part of their skills.
