Fashion Show Highlight of Home Tour League Luncheon

The spring sunshine set the stage for Henry Mayo’s Holiday Home Tour League’s fashion show and luncheon at the elegant Westridge home of Shelley Hann on May 6, 2009.

Designed to promote membership for the volunteer organization, which has hosted the popular Holiday Home Tour in the Santa Clarita Valley on the first Saturday of December since 1981, the event opened with remarks by Sue Smyth, Home Tour League parliamentarian.

“Since our inception, the Home Tour League has raised more than $800,000 for women‘s services at Henry Mayo. As of 2008, our efforts have supported the building of a new neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital,” Smyth said. “We hope that many of you here today will become Home Tour members. We need your help and this is a really fun group to join.”

While the 95 guests dined on a wide array of salads, including a tangy lemon-yogurt pasta version, and a lemon raspberry scone dessert from local Valencia caterer Mary Lynne Fry, members of Henry Mayo’s Guild and Home Tour League modeled fashions from Margo’s of Newhall. Clothing ranged from sexy evening dresses to leisure-inspired sportswear. Many of the items were touted by Margo Hudson, owner of Margo’s, as “perfect travel outfits,” a fitting nod to summer vacations ahead.

Guild past president Catherine Montoya floated by guests in a tiered pink chiffon evening gown, while Guild member Mary McCormick donned a spiffy green-striped, long-sleeve t-shirt with a series of coordinating scarves. Lilliana West of the Home Tour League stunned guests in a black, red, and white beaded halter dress that shimmered in the sunlight.

Watching from the sidelines, 2009 Home Tour co-chair Shelley Hann smiled as she enjoyed the proceedings.

“I love doing anything I can to support the hospital and this event is a great way to introduce potential members to the camaraderie and fun we enjoy in the Home Tour League,” Hann said. “The Home Tour is how the holidays are kicked off in the Santa Clarita Valley. Whether someone wants to volunteer for four hours at the tour or become more involved, we welcome them to join.”
