Philanthropy through planned giving is a critical part of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s growth and provides our patients access to life-saving services and the most advanced technology.
Through planned giving, donors establish their personal financial goals in a well-conceived estate plan that includes a gift to a charitable institution like Henry Mayo.
Estelle Hoffman, a hospital volunteer and president of the hospital’s auxiliary, and her husband, Al, recently made a charitable bequest to Henry Mayo through their existing Will and Living Trust. The process is simple once you have an established and up-to-date Living Trust, Hoffman said.
“During one of the Foundation’s board meetings, they were talking about donations and it was like a light bulb went off,” Hoffman said. “I never thought of including the hospital in a living trust, but then when I found out how easy it was I spoke to my husband and we agreed to make the bequest. It is through charitable bequests that we as individuals can support an organization such as Henry Mayo. I love this hospital and I want to give back to the community.”
In addition to supporting the hospital, through philanthropy, donors can gain income and tax benefits; acquire current and future financial security; maximize assets that will pass to heirs and beneficiaries; protect as much income from federal taxes as is allowed by law; and provide continued, meaningful support of charities. Established in 1984, the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation has raised nearly $50 million. Most recent accomplishments include the emergency room expansion, a new cardiac cath lab, and an 18-bed intensive care unit. A new 11-bed, state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is slated for completion in December 2011.
