An evening of Bunco, a fast-moving dice game in a lively party atmosphere, will be held October 11 at the Valencia Hills Clubhouse from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The fundraiser is one of several events planned for October (National Breast Cancer Awareness month) that will help the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation and Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center raise awareness of the importance of mammograms for early breast cancer detection.
“People have always had a great time at Bunco and knowing it’s all for a great cause makes it even better,” said Terry Bucknall, director of the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. “The community can show its support of Breast Cancer Awareness and have lots of fun while doing it.”
Buy-in is $30 in advance and $40 at the door and includes beverages and appetizers. There will be plenty of prizes and raffle items. Seating is limited so call now for reservations: Henry Mayo’s Foundation, 661-200-1201.
The event proceeds will help to purchase technology designed to improve outcomes for women undergoing breast reconstructive surgery as a result of breast cancer. The wi-fi enabled ViOptix T.Ox™ Tissue Oximetermeasures the oxygen flow in transplanted tissue and transmits the data to any internet accessible device including PDAs, smart phones and personal computersto help clinicians quickly identify potential tissue health risks and initiate appropriate intervention.
Since its inception in 2003, the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center has provided more than 73,000 screenings and found 560 breast cancers through mammograms and diagnostic exams. The breast imaging center’s life-saving services wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the Santa Clarita Valley community. To schedule your mammogram, please call (661) 253-8822.
